Actually, it does not use a push mechanism at all. The major selling point of IEM is that it uses a pull mechanism similar to what puppet is doing which allows it to scale more efficiently than other players like Altiris or Mcafee EPP.

The agent checks back to the IEM server for jobs that it should perform on a default of 24hrs which can be configured to be 1 hour or less though its highly recommended not to set it too low. There is a notification mechanism built into the agent but you need to open the UDP port 52311 on your agents in order for the server to notify the agent that it has jobs. In situations where it takes a long time for an agent to perform an action, almost 90% of the time, its due to the UDP notification not reaching the agent.

Another interesting point of the IEM agent is that it has been configured to consume 2% of the CPU(doesn’t work in some scenarios due to delays in I/O). I’m not sure why you mentioned that its resource hungry though.

Re: Bootstrapping Windows with Chef

Hi this is my Command : knife bootstrap windows winrm ec2-52-49-235-105.eu-west-1... -x 'Administrator' getting below error :
Net::HTTPServerException: 401 "Unauthorized"

Please help Me!!

Re: Setting up a PXE boot server with Centos and Dnsmasq

Where is dnsmasq installation? I have been using this successfully at one of my clients for other purposes.

Good luck with the proxy!

Regards,

Michael.

Re: Bootstrapping Windows with Chef

What if my node is behind Proxy server?

Re: Setting up a PXE boot server with Centos and Dnsmasq

thanks

Re: Thoughts on Android and iPhones

I don't deny that the problem may have been with the manufacturer. That said, there is an upgrade problem with Android:

http://www.readwriteweb.com...

In the end it comes down to finances. When you buy a HTC or Samsung phone there is no guarantee that you will buy another phone from the same manufacturer even if you buy another Android. Hence they are a bit more lax with the upgrades. Apple on the other hand has an interest in giving you the upgrade because if you upgrade IOS you are going back to apple because no-one else has it.

Re: Thoughts on Android and iPhones

Hi Michael!
Seems to me that you are laying the faults of the phone manufacturer at the feet of the operating system here. I got a Samsung Nexus because I could get it half the price of an iPhone. I haven't encountered any of the problems you have listed and would not expect to eg this phone updates to latest android version automatically. I still would prefer the iPhone but that's just because I could chuck my iPod then ;)
cheers
michele

Re: Cloud Storage Options

After having taken the plunge and gone with google drive I am now attempting to get the client to upload my files from my NAS (using CENTOS) to google drive. So far the client seems to crash each time it starts... not filling me with hope.
